Hacienda

We spent the day with Percy, our translator, and Jose, our driver, touring the plantation.

Coffee beans.

Life-size chess board.

We had a bit of a surprise when we were told we’d be having lunch in the owner’s hacienda. Their cook prepared a traditional Costa Rican meal for both of us, our translator and our driver.

The drink is called froggy juice.

Costa Rica

A pretty amazing day. We had Celebrity Cruises Private Journeys create a tour for the two of us. They did an amazing job. We were picked up at the dock by a driver and a translator. They took us to a family owned plantation that grows sugar cane, coffee, and macadamia nuts. On the way we saw sloths and beautiful foliage.

Pineapple plants.

We stopped at a small fruit stand along side the road for coconut water. The owner’s son tapped them for us. We also had some sort of stewed fruit.

Last sea day before Costa Rica

Another relaxing day on the balcony of our cabin.

Spa treatments this morning. No pics of me unless you want to see a young Thai lady salt scrub my feet.

Here is Joe M after getting his dipped in hot wax.

Sushi day. Yes, food pics.

The desert was mochi. Vanilla, green tea, and mango ice cream in a pounded soft rice dough that had the consistency of marzipan.

Explored the ship’s photography and art collection. Tons of fun pieces, but here are two we see everyday by our elevator.

We arrive in Costa Rica at 8am.

Day at sea

Had a leisurely day making our way toward Costa Rica.

Breakfast in Luminae.

Choppy seas early in the day. This was our view from the restaurant this morning.

Walked the upper deck.

More food photography.

Spent a nice afternoon meeting people and had a group of a dozen or so back to the suite for drinks.

Boarded Celebrity Silhouette at 11am. These are our digs for the next 11 days.

And last, but not least, our butler George.

Norton Museum of Art

Stopped by to see the special exhibit of Gertrude Vanderbilt Whitney sculptures. She is Gloria Vanderbilt’s aunt who fought for Gloria as a child in one of the biggest custody battles in history. She also founded the Whitney museum in New York.

Painting of Gertrude by Adolph de Meyer.

The museum has a great permanent collection.

Christ in the Garden of Olives by Gauguin.

Last full day in Palm Beach

Slept in late and went back to Cafe Boulud for brunch.

We don’t normally take many food pics, but felt inspired today.

Beet and endive salad with grapefruit and goat cheese. And duck confit.

Joe A forgot sunglasses, so we headed down to Worth Avenue.

Northwood

Constance recommended we check out Northwood. She called it the “hippie area” of West Palm Beach. Great public art, shops and restaurants.

Fantastic furniture shop of vintage Henredon and Baker with a Lily Pulitzer feel.

Ended the day at Cucina Palm Beach.

Boca Fine Art Fair

Another beautiful day. Morning view of the pool from the guest house.

Drove down to Boca for the annual fine art fair. We ran into Sip Tshun Ng. Joe M had recently installed one of his pieces in a client’s house. He goes through a lot of pencils.

In the style of Modigliani

We picked up 5 pieces from this artist for the Urban showroom.

Before we headed back to Palm Beach we met up with an Asian antiquities dealer and Joe M purchased three Burmese teppanom bronzes. They are being shipped to meet us back at home in a couple weeks. All three are going in the dining room.
